Introducing Our Latest Motorsport Brand Ambassador, Tom Williams!
We are proud to introduce you to one of our latest Geckota brand ambassadors, Tom Williams, who spent 2019, as the youngest & only British driver in the FIA Junior World Rally Championship!
The 21-year old Englishman has come a long way in a short space of time, having made his rallying debut in the Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship just six years ago. Tom has been quietly gaining the skills required to be a star of the future, working hard on his physical and mental fitness, amassing mechanical skills by building and repairing his own car, all the time fine-tuning his all-important pace notes systems too.
Much of Tom’s rallying plan has been gleaned from his father, who guided 2001 World Rally Champion Richard Burns, from the Under 17 Car Club to International super-stardom. Back in the late 1980s and early ‘90s, Tom’s dad David, well known in British rallying for some go his spectacular exploits in a variety of cars like the Nissan 240RS and Williams Grand Prix designed Metro 6R4. More recently, David and his wife Sadie teamed up together to win the 2007 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge in a 1938 Chevrolet Fangio Coupe.
2019, Tom’s second full season in the FIA Junior World Rally Championship, turned out to be everything Tom hoped for and more, driving the all-new EcoBoost-powered Ford Fiesta R2, and gaining further experience of the WRC. He competed 5 rounds of the Junior World Championship, and while points finishes were hard to come by, Tom was delighted to match the speed of the top drivers at the final round of the year, and can look back on 24 months of intense progress.
This year will be another big step up as Tom will have a new team, new car, & the M Sport prepared, Ford Fiesta R5, as well as new co-driver. There will be so much more to learn in 2020, but the mix of
British, European & World rounds, will give Tom a huge platform to show off his talents in front of the bigger teams and some huge crowds.
