The First Generation of G-02

Since 2019 the G-02 has been a strong part of the Geckota line up of watches. Designed from the ground up this watch represents Geckota, offering something unique and different with build quality and design at a high standard. Showcasing a sunburst, epoxy filled bezel, a fitted beads of rice bracelet and a display case back showing off the powerful swiss made ETA 2824-2 movement the G-02 was one of our most finely finished watches.

The G-02 Steel Edition

The G-02 continued to be a core part of the Geckota range of watches and come 2020 we introduced the G-02 Steel Edition. Taking further inspiration from our established space age design language, seen in the G-01 and Airstream, we re-introduced the vertically brushed fume gradient dial, as well as incorporating a finely finished steel bezel. This watch also included a more modern version of our logo, for a cleaner style compared to the very vintage style of our previous G-02.

Introducing the Slimline

Constantly evolving, we now have the 3rd iteration of G-02 design. On my desk I have about 20 watches and amongst these was a G-02 I had without a bezel. I started thinking, this watch could actually look quite good without the bezel. So, I got to work. Using 70s sport watches as inspiration for my design I came up with what is now known as the G-02 Slimline.

The biggest change is the bezel, our previous models feature a 120 click uni-directional bezel which unmistakably makes it a dive watch. The Slimline, however, boasts a solid fixed bezel finished with circular brushing and a chamfered polished edge. This takes the watch from being a classic dive watch and transforms it into a dressy sport watch, taking the G-02 range into a whole new direction.

The Slimline comes in 4 dial options with Super-LumiNova® coated hands and indices. A sunburst blue and green and a matte black and white, the white being contrasted by a strong gunmetal grey handset. Powering this watch is the reliable Miyota 9039 all quality tested in house to guarantee an accuracy between -20 & +20 seconds a day.

Why Slimline?

Finally, you may be wondering where the name Slimline comes from. Is the G-02 Slimline actually thinner than the original G-02? Coming in at a thickness of 12mm it is 1.5mm thinner than the previous model, which has a thickness of 13.5mm. The addition of the new bezel, which sits at half the height of its predecessor, allows the watch to wear a lot slimmer. As someone with what can be considered as quite a skinny wrist, 160mm (6.25 inches), I felt it was important that this would be a watch friendly to people with small and large wrists.

The G-02 Slimline is currently available for £399. Each G-02 comes fitted on a solid stainless-steel H-Link bracelet with contrasting brushed and polished finishes, a micro-adjustment clasp and quick-release spring bars. All our models are made in very limited batches, with a unique serial number engraved on each caseback. Click here to explore the collection.
