My Geckota R-01 Watch: Veit from Dornblüth & Sohn
Highly skilled German watchmaker for independent brand tells us what his Geckota R-01 means to him...
Being a watchmaker for
Dornblüth & Sohn, watches, of course, excite me. It's the design and my never-ending fascination with mechanics that drives this. My real passion as a constructor and designer of microcosm machines lie in the mechanics of the small movements.
It's simply fascinating and consistently motivates me every day. Privately, however, I like to be inspired and enchanted by beautiful, new, fresh designs with a clear language. This is why you would commonly see me wearing watches from brands such as
Vertigo Berlin,
NOMOS and of course,
Geckota.
My R-01 choice is the Vintage style version with the blue dial on the blue leather strap. The dial has a beautifully clear form to it with a great level of clarity. None of the formal elements on the watch are too much or disturbing to the watch' wearability. The fine minute track is a delicate white rectangle. I love how that the dial base colour is a wonderful blue, harmonising wonderfully with the golden hands, the numbers and the white print throughout the dial. Finally, the case is finished in stainless steel which reminds me of the beautiful
Jaeger-Le Coultre Reverso. A classic.
The main time I wear my R-01 is when working at the watchmaker's table on new watches for Dornblüth & Sohn. It's extremely light and comfortable DNA makes it perfect for the job. When I'm not working, my R-01 is versatile enough to come with me to classical music concerts.
