At Geckota, we believe that a great watch should feel like more than just a tool - it should adapt, evolve, and tell a story. The Chronotimer Chronograph, in its outgoing form, is one of those stories. This version marks the final iteration of our previous-generation Chronotimer design - a fitting send-off before we fully shift focus to our new mechanical chronograph line. And now, to close the chapter in style, we’ve expanded the strap options beyond the original olive green leather - giving you more ways to customise this last-of-its-kind model.
The Outgoing Generation: Heritage, Design & Purpose
As a British watch brand, Geckota has always celebrated classic horological design while making it accessible for today’s enthusiasts. From the start, the Chronotimer Chronograph has leaned into the golden era of motorsport watches. Its reverse panda dial (black main dial with crisp white subdials) channels the aesthetic of vintage-inspired watches from the 1960s and 70s. Legibility, contrast, and balance were top priorities.
The case - a 42 mm stainless steel build - hits a sweet spot: bold on the wrist, but not oversized. The pushers and bezel details are purposeful and restrained, letting the dial shine. Under the hood, it’s powered by a reliable quartz chronograph movement, enabling precise timing with start/stop/reset functions and a tachymeter scale for speed calculations.
What makes this model particularly special is its place in the Geckota story: it is the last version of the previous Chronotimer generation, meaning it carries the refinement and lessons of all prior iterations, distilled into a final release.
From Olive Green Leather - To More Ways to Wear It
Originally, the Chronotimer was offered only on a two-piece olive green leather strap. This suited the watch’s blend of sporty tool-watch energy and vintage character. The green shade echoed military and expedition cues, while the leather construction added texture, warmth, and daily wear comfort.
But as watches have souls, straps are their wardrobe. To broaden the appeal and versatility of this final-generation piece, we’re introducing three new strap options. Each transforms its personality in subtle - or bold - ways:
-
Coral Nylon Strap
Brighter and more expressive, the coral version gives the Chronotimer a summer-ready, sporty pop. It’s lively without being flashy, ideal for days when you want the watch to stand out. -
Indigo Blue Nylon Strap
A cooler, more understated alternative. Indigo provides contrast to the dial without overpowering it, pairing nicely with denim, navy attire, or casual separates. -
Black Chromexcel Leather Strap
This option brings a refined edge to the sporty chronograph. Chromexcel leather (sourced from Horween) offers rich patina potential over time. On black, it tames the tool dial just enough to make the watch suitable for dressier settings without losing its character.
The strap expansion allows you to shift the Chronotimer’s mood - from rugged to playful to semi-formal - all while retaining the same striking head. It’s the flexibility we wish every affordable luxury watch had.
Glimpse Forward: The New Sports Mechanical Chronotimer
While we celebrate this outgoing model, we’re also excited about where the Chronotimer line is heading. About a year ago, we unveiled the Sports Mechanical Chronotimer - our first full step into mechanical watches and chronograph territory. (Read the full press release)
Here’s how the new version pushes the concept further, while staying true to the vintage-inspired DNA:
-
Mechanical Movement: Instead of quartz, the new version houses a hand-wound mechanical chronograph watch calibre (TY2901) based on the classic Venus 175 movement.
-
Elegant Case Redesign: It departs from the old case with a three-piece stainless steel cushion-style case, measuring 41.5 mm in diameter and 12.35 mm thick. The finishing plays with polished and brushed surfaces, adding visual depth.
-
Modern Dial Options: The new model comes with several sunburst dial colours (Slate Grey, Jade Green, Maroon Red, Pacific Teal) - layering more personality into the Chronotimer family.
-
Limited Production & Prestige: Each dial variation is limited to 50 pieces, giving the mechanical model a sense of exclusivity.
-
Finishing Touches: Blued screws, bevelled bridges, and a sapphire display caseback lend finesse and mechanical appeal.
In short, the Sports Mechanical Chronotimer is our evolution - marrying vintage aesthetics with modern watchmaking craftsmanship.
If you’re drawn to the classic, rugged-chic aesthetic and prefer the simplicity and reliability of quartz, the outgoing model - with its expanded strap options - is a strong choice and an opportunity to own a design at the end of its evolution. If, however, your heart leans toward automatic watches and mechanical craftsmanship, limited runs, and a fully modern chronograph experience, the new Sports Mechanical Chronotimer offers a compelling next step.
Whether you decide to explore the outgoing design or jump into the mechanical era, both versions embody the spirit that defines Geckota: vintage-inspired watches from a British watch brand crafted with care and personality.
